Introduction to Zwakala Africa 2015

An Introduction to Zwakala Africa 2015

The very first Zwakala was held in 2007 and only included learners from South Africa. A total of 95 students entered, with 6 students making it through to the finals.

With the support of the SABC, the Department of Arts & Culture, the Department of Education, DeafSA, PanSALB and the Deaf community, Zwakala has grown into a recognisable, strong and sustainable brand. By 2013 Zwakala Africa had launched, and the event now included six additional SADC nations, growing to 10 in 2015.

Including the SADC member nations has not been without challenges, but the DTV team, with the support of the Zwakala Africa partners, has always found a way of managing these challenges. The dream is that by 2016 all 15 SADC member nations will be represented at the Zwakala Africa Gala Event.

In this week’s episode of DTV we take a look at the journey leading up to Zwakala Africa 2015.
